Thanksgiving
Giving Thanks for Health and Community
Hello everyone! I’m Shiv—founder of The Health Talks, a high school student, and an American Heart Association National Youth Heart Ambassador. I’m so grateful you’re here to celebrate Thanksgiving and our shared commitment to wellness.
Thanksgiving is a time for reflection, togetherness, and—of course—delicious food! It’s also a wonderful opportunity to appreciate our own health and the supportive community around us. Here are a few ways to make this Thanksgiving healthier and more meaningful:
1. Embrace Gratitude for Well-Being
Thanksgiving reminds us of the power of gratitude. Taking a moment to appreciate the food on our tables, the people we care about, and the goals we’ve accomplished can boost mood and reduce stress. Consider starting a gratitude journal or sharing something you’re thankful for around the dinner table.
2. Healthy Holiday Eating
It’s easy to indulge during holiday meals, but a few mindful tips can help you maintain balance:
- Load up on veggies first – Roasted vegetables, salads, and other plant-based options provide nutrients and fiber.
- Stay hydrated – Drinking water throughout the day helps prevent overeating.
- Savor every bite – Enjoy your favorite dishes, but focus on portion sizes and slow, mindful eating.
3. Add a Little Movement
Whether it’s a neighborhood walk, a casual football toss, or an early morning run, fitting in some physical activity can help balance out those extra holiday treats. Being active also supports heart health and reduces stress—a win-win!
4. Prioritize Stress Management
Holidays can be bustling, and stress can sneak in. Taking just a few minutes to breathe deeply, meditate, or practice gentle stretching can help keep your mind at ease and your heart healthy.
5. Stay Connected & Give Back
Thanksgiving is all about community. Consider volunteering at a local food bank, donating warm clothing, or simply checking in on neighbors. Sharing our time and resources not only supports others but nourishes our own hearts, too!
I’m incredibly thankful for the Health Talks community. Together, we inspire healthier choices, share encouragement, and make our world a little brighter every day. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, filled with gratitude, wholesome meals, and good health!
